Substantial Humanitarian Projects of "Yoga in Daily Life"

Sri Vishwa Deep Gurukul Maheshwarananda Ashram
Education & Research Center
To foster the spiritual and humanitarian ideals which Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda spreads throughout the world in the name of his Satguru Bhagwan Sri Deep Narayan Mahaprabhuji, his disciples have undertaken the task to build a big center which represents a home for all spiritual seekers and at the same time offers humanitarian aid to the needy.

Sri Vishwa Deep Gurukul Maheshwarananda Ashram Education & Research Center in Jadan, Dist. Pali, Rajasthan has been founded in 1990 as a Multicultural Center to promote the following principles:
  • Physical, mental, social and spiritual health
  • Respect for life of all living beings
  • Tolerance and understanding among all religions, cultures and nationalities
  • Protection of human rights and the environment.
Ashram, which is still under construction, will be a center for spiritual aspirants of all nationalities and denominations as well as providing a hospital, a home for the aged or handicapped, an orphanage, an animal's refuge, a primary and a high-school as well as a University for Yoga and Sanskrit studies.

Every year numerous conferences, meetings and activities on public health, human rights, tolerance and world peace take place in Sri Vishwa Deep Gurukul Swami Maheshwarananda Ashram Education & Research Center.

In 1999 Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda organised global fundraising programs for the victims of the devastating cyclone in Orissa, India.

Through his initiative continuous humanitarian projects have been developed for the local area of Pali, Rajasthan, India, e.g. a support program for school-children, health care, water supply and fire-fighting service.

Paramhans Swami Madhavanand Austria Hospital
The construction of a naturopathic and allopathic hospital began in September 2002. This will provide residential health care to neighbouring districts. Until the hospital is complete, the Jadan Ashram continues to provide a free mobile ambulance service to the surrounding
rural area.

Sri Vishwa Deep Gurukul Secondary School
The school is in its third year and has a total of 304 students from KG to 9th class. The school is recognized by the State Government of Rajasthan and has permission to take enrolments to 10th class graduation in 2005. Fees for the school are minimal with 70% of the students, including all girl students, receiving free education. The school is funded through donations from throughout the world as well as the income from the hostel which is run parallel to the school.

Gyan Putra
Gyan Putra is a scheme for sponsoring local children from poor families so that they can continue their education. The students are attending government schools throughout the area. This scheme has been running since 1998 and at present is supporting more than 250 students. Students are supplied with books, fees, uniforms and notebooks.

Swami Madhavanand Sarovar (Rainwater Harvesting)
In order to provide water for the projects of the Ashram, including the hospital, the Society constructed a large surface water dam in the Ashram for catching of rain water run off. The Ashram's unique position on the water course in the area means that a large flow of water passes through the dams catchment. The dam was built over a period of 3 years. The water for the dam will also be purified and used to supply drinking water to needy villages in the area.

Drought Relief
In the past 4 years there have been two heavy droughts in the Pali District. The Society is active in providing drinking water by tanker and tractor tanker to needy villages during the emergency. During the drought of 2003 the Society was delivering around 80,000 litres of drinking water per day at distances of up to 45 kilometres from the Ashram.

Education Programs
The Society is running regular yoga classes for the public as well as yoga seminars and peace conferences. Winter programs are attended by up to 400 people from the region and abroad. The courses are from 4 to 6 weeks in duration.

Education programs for women
The Society has also worked with the Indian Government to run residential courses for training of ladies about hygiene and child welfare. Graduates of the program are able to act as advisors within their local community on matters of child development, hygiene and on the education and development of girls up until their maturity.

Reforestation and ecological programs
The Jadan Ashram has a long term project of reforestation with the planting of around 5000 trees in 2002. To date there have been over 200,000 trees successfully planted in this area. The Ashrams organic farm aims to be a model for the local area as local farmers use pesticides excessively. There is an ongoing research in the production of natural pesticides from the local Neem tree. The Ashram produces organic vegetable, wheat, corn, barley and various seeds & spices.

OM Sri Deveshwar Mahadev Gaushala
The desert region of Rajasthan is a harsh environment to live in and the current drought is particularly hard on cattle let free by villagers who can no longer afford to feed them. Within the Jadan Ashram a large animal refuge has been built, which provides humane veterinary care for over 300 old, homeless and sick animals. One of the outcomes of the reforestation project is the fresh fodder for the animals. This increased nutrition enhances their recovery to good health.
